Why use water based coatings over solvent based coatings?
Healthier for people, animals, no toxic fumes, longer lasting, UV resistant & non discolouring
Why does water based coating last longer? They seem to look thinner.
They last longer because more of the coating product is absorbed into the timer floor, hence longer lasting. Solvent are perceived to last longer because they look thicker, and that’s because they are designed to be top coats NOT penetrating coats
What’s the warranty or guarantee on the coating?
There are none that we provide, neither does the manufacturer. Any manufacturer of the any coating materials always guarantees the production process and the delivery from manufacturing plant to sales warehousing. After that there are no warranties or guarantees. There are too many variables that can spoil the coatings, such as warehousing & temperatures. Please make sure you use only a professional for your floors, who uses top of the line materials and coatings. You DO get what you pay for.
Solvent based coatings should last 6-8 years before re-sand & re-coat
Water based coatings should last 10-12 years before re-sand & re-coat
Why should customers hire us over other providers?
Silly question, if you did your research online and had undergone our on-site consultation process that takes approx. 45 min, you will know that we take our job very seriously. Besides, POLACO ®™ Craftsmanship Floors is a 3rd generation, family owned and run. We have the experience, the knowledge and passion for floors. This isn’t just a project or a job for us, it’s a work of art and once we complete it will remain so for many years.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
Over 20 years in the industry alone classifies us as Craftsman in Timber Restoration. Knowledge and experience passed on since 1951. For further details on skills, you might want to visit our YouTube video channel that shows exactly how we restore floors.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
We specialize in ALL aspects of Timber Floor restorations, including furniture.
Are there any special offers that you offer to your customers?
We will beat any written & fully itemised estimate by 10%
How can a customer save money before the project begins?
It’s NOT about saving money; it’s about getting the right person to get the job done right. In general, unless you’re a trade’s person and have the tools, there’s nothing that you can do to help.
Removing carpets by you saves money.
Are you an insured business?
Of course, we are insured. All professionals must be.
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
Communication is the key. We try to involve our customers with the entire sanding & coating process by keeping in touch via sms and calls, as well as photos emailed to our customers on daily bases, indicating the works before and after. As well as that, our 3rd party Feedback website has all the information you need.
How long does the job last?
In general, anything up to 100sq.mt, will take between 5-7 days
Last coat dries in 48 hours
& curing time takes another 5-7 days
People should always allow for up to 2weeks, from start to finish before they’ll be able to utilize the area to the fullest.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you and what is your answer?
Price and price over the phone.
As a professional craftsman, it is IMPOSSIBLE for us to provide anyone with a quotation / estimate over the phone. We need to see the timber floor / or as we call it Canvas. As for the price, general pricing structure ranges between $33-$35 per sq.mt. Depending on the timber condition, pre-coats, choice of coatings etc.
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
Family owned business
What makes your pricing competitive?
Nothing, because there isn’t enough of professional competition but plenty of idiotic competition. The market is filled with losers and idiots. There are too many backyard cowboys out there who are flooding the industry, with No training, No experience, No self-worth. We only compete with professionals, who always provide customers with a written, fully itemised quote / estimate. We know exactly what our knowledge and experience is worth.
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
Only one. It’s not that we don’t want to know over the phone or how ever we got contacted, we need to see the canvas, we need to see exactly what we are working with in order to correctly price it & provide our customers with as much information and alternatives as possible.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional in the floor restorations trade?
What are their sanding procedures? What products are used? (Professionals only use top brands in water based coatings such as BONA & LOBA) How many years have they been in the trade? Any samples? “Honesty” – do I need the floors done? Cross sanding?
What do you like most about your job?
The look and smell of timber is what comes into mind initially, but over all we like the entire restoration process and the satisfying, happy smile that it gives our customers at the end of the project.
How do you normally charge for your service?
Normally our services are charged per square metre. Otherwise if needed, we have day rates, night rates, depending on the kind of project.
